St George’s Church in Benfleet, Essex is launching an ambitious campaign to raise £450,000 to rebuild their community hall.

Plans to replace the current asbestos-infested building with a brand new modern facility are supported by local councillors, with the church hall seen as a corner-stone of the Castle Point Borough community.

The church hall, located at the site since the early 1950’s, is at risk of being condemned. It could potentially leave playgroups, fitness classes and scout groups looking for a new home. St George’s Publicity and Communications Officer said “we want to demonstrate that we support the local borough and ensure there is a facility to use for future generations”.

St George’s hopes to achieve the target through grants and fundraising events but is reaching out to other hall users to help in their goals.

“The hall is there to serve the community, we need all the help we can get to raise the money” the spokesperson for the church added.
