Music journalism course

Sarah McRuvie

Music Journalism student Sarah McRuvie describes being taught by Lulu Le Vay

I have recently finished a music journalism course with Lulu at the London Journalism Centre. If you are serious about music journalism and want to hone in on the practical skills to become a freelance writer, this course is invaluable. As a tutor, Lulu’s laid-back personality mixed with her professionalism made the classes really enjoyable. Lulu is friendly, approachable and extremely patient with people of different abilities; providing constructive feedback and encouraging everyone to develop. As someone just starting out in this industry, I have learned so much from Lulu. The course covered writing under pressure, interview techniques, pitching to publication editors and prodiving a much broader understanding of how the industry works. Thanks to Lulu, who arranged several guest speakers throughout the course, I have been commissioned off the back of one of my pitches, to write a piece for Clash music’s website for their festival coverage. If you have the passion to write, Lulu can give you the tools and direction to push you forward. It has been a pleasure to have had such an incredibly inspiring tutor, couldn’t recommend more.
