Jill Insley London Journalism Centre GuardianDuring this fun and interactive afternoon course Jill Insley draws on decades of experience to explain how to research the market for a story or feature idea, how to identify the right publication and editor, and how to make that crucial pitch by email and phone. You practice writing emails to a commissioning editor and receive feedback on your pitches. You also role play phoning up editors with a story idea and again get feedback on how you did with handy pointers for improving your technique.

Jill Insley has commissioned and written thousands of articles on a wide range of topics and was senior commissioning editor at The Guardian until December last year. She was recruited by The Observer in 1998 to work on the launch of its new personal finance section Cash , and became editor in 2005. She was promoted in 1998 to the Guardian senior executive management as Head of Consumer with responsibility for all personal finance and consumer content in the Guardian, Observer and

Jill started her career as reporter on the business newspaper Money Marketing and then became features editor. As commissioning editor she then helped launch Inside Money, another successful consumer magazine.
